It is with great pleasure that we present BalticWater’s new ambassador – Joakim Odelberg. Joakim is a film and photo journalist and lecturer with great knowledge and commitment to the sea. He is also the host of the series One Planet One Chance and has a past as host of SVT’s “Mitt i naturen”.
– Despite the fact that a large part of our country has a coastline on the Baltic Sea, few have the opportunity to look below the surface. With Joakim’s help, we will be able to engage and spread knowledge about our inland sea, because although it faces many challenges, there are also great opportunities, says Konrad Stralka, Executive Director of BalticWaters.
Joakim’s workplace is the world’s oceans, but the Baltic Sea is particularly close to his heart. He has made several films for the BalticSea2020 foundation (Spöken i Östersjön and the sequel Spökgarn – vad hände sen?) and documented the Baltic Sea in countless other contexts. In total, Joakim has over 1000 diving hours in the Baltic Sea.
– It is a great honour to become an ambassador for BalticWaters! Protecting and preserving the sea is crucial for our future. I am very concerned about the threat that industrial fishing poses to the Baltic Sea. As an ambassador, I will work to raise awareness of the overexploitation of fisheries resources and the consequences for the ecosystem. Fishing in the Baltic Sea must be conducted in a way that preserves stocks and allows for long-term sustainable fishing for future generations, says Joakim.
We warmly welcome Joakim to BalticWaters!
