Advocacy

BalticWaters works to develop and disseminate knowledge about the Baltic Sea environment to the public, authorities and decision-makers. The aim is to raise awareness of the challenges facing the sea and to build public support so that decisions are taken and measures implemented.
Our advocacy work

Fisheries policy with a focus on viable fish stocks
Our vision is a Baltic Sea with thriving fish populations, where fishing is conducted in harmony with nature and the catch is primarily used for human consumption. To achieve this, we disseminate knowledge, develop evidence-based recommendations and advocate for policy decisions that strengthen both the marine environment and the long-term value of the Baltic Sea’s fish stocks.

Recycle plant nutrients - for a living sea
Sweden’s food production is currently heavily reliant on imported mineral fertilisers, whilst inefficient nutrient flows contribute to the eutrophication of lakes and seas. We are working to raise awareness of the importance of recycling plant nutrients within agriculture, where improved food security and a healthier sea go hand in hand.
