A book about the Baltic Sea – how did we get here?
The Baltic Sea is one of the world’s most studied seas. This inland sea faces many challenges, but there are clear solutions to several of them. Yet the unsustainable use of the Baltic Sea’s resources continues.
For eight years, Henrik Hamrén has worked as a science journalist at Stockholm University’s Baltic Sea Centre. He has read hundreds of studies, reports and policy documents, and interviewed researchers, heads of agencies, civil servants and politicians in an attempt to understand why the sea is not being used more sustainably. How can this be allowed to continue? And why?
To get to the bottom of the issue, Henrik Hamrén will investigate the mechanisms and underlying structures – political, economic and psychological – that drive the unsustainable use of the sea’s resources. The research will result in a book.
