The herring stock in the Baltic Sea comprises a variety of populations with different adaptations and migration strategies. In this project, researchers will take a closer look at herring in the Stockholm archipelago.

The aim of the project is to investigate adaptations in herring within the coastal ecosystems of the Stockholm archipelago. The results will provide information on which sub-stocks of herring thrive best in this important part of the Baltic Sea – information that is vital for designing management measures that ensure the survival of herring stocks and their role in the ecosystem.

Herring in the Stockholm archipelago is being carried out by Stockholm University. Through BalticWaters’ program for research projects and pre-studies, the project has been awarded a grant of SEK 999,862.
