To make informed decisions on reducing eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, we need a better understanding of different types of measures and where they are implemented.
The aim of the project is to evaluate the effects of measures such as structural liming, wetlands and two-stage ditches on water quality in two areas representative of Swedish agriculture, soil type and climate. By combining long-term and high-frequency water quality data, the project will assess which factors govern the effectiveness of individual measures and whether they can lead to reduced nutrient input from land to the Baltic Sea.
The project is being carried out by the Department of Soil and Environment, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and will run until 2025. Through BalticWaters’ program for research projects and pre-studies, the project has been awarded a grant of SEK 1 million for the scientific part of the project.
