Ylva Berg Axell has been appointed as the new Chair of BalticWaters. She was elected by a unanimous Board on 14 March 2025 and succeeds Otto von Arnold, who has been Chair of the foundation since its work began in 2020.

‘It is a great honour to contribute to BalticWaters’ important work. Being able to work for our sea with the broad mission and scientific basis that characterises BalticWaters is both challenging and very inspiring,’ says Ylva Berg Axell and continues:

‘It is particularly important for me to continue to develop the foundation’s financial strength so that we can be a powerful and long-term actor working for a living Baltic Sea’.

Ylva comes with a long and solid experience of leadership from various roles in the business world with a passion for society, sustainability and technology.

BalticWaters is a fundraising foundation. The work is made possible through donations from individuals and organisations. BalticWater is politically independent with a single goal: to keep our sea – the Baltic Sea – alive. We advocate, conduct projects and support research for a sea full of life, for us and future generations.
