BalticWaters is recruiting seasonal staff for the position of Laboratory Assistant at BalticWaters Fish Laboratory in Studsvik. This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on in a research-oriented environment where science, innovation, and societal benefit come together. As a Laboratory Assistant, you enjoy practical tasks and supporting the day-to-day work of the laboratory’s ongoing projects. You are meticulous, solution-oriented, and work well in collaboration with others. We are looking for someone who is passionate about issues related to the Baltic Sea and who wants to contribute to project work during the summer of 2026.
Task assignments
We are looking for someone who enjoys supporting colleagues and working with animals in a scientific environment. Examples of tasks include:
- Monitoring fish, eggs, and larvae
- Maintenance of phytoplankton and zooplankton cultures and feeding fish at different life stages
- Monitoring and documentation of water quality parameters
- Assisting with sampling
- Supporting fieldwork when required
- Supervision and maintenance of equipment
- On-call duties
Qualifications and personal attributes
To be successful in this role, you should be solution-oriented and prepared to address problems as they arise. You are comfortable working both as part of a team and independently, able to plan your own work, and you are detail-oriented with a willingness to take responsibility and initiative. You have a university-level education or relevant experience in biology. It is considered an advantage if you have completed coursework in laboratory animal science or hold certification permitting work with laboratory animals. A valid Category B driver’s license and good command of English, both written and spoken, are required.
Employment details
The work is largely governed by natural conditions, which means that working hours may vary. You should be able to work both weekdays and weekends. The position is a full-time (100%) seasonal employment. The peak season runs from 1 June to mid-August. An earlier start in May is advantageous to allow for training and onboarding.
Your immediate supervisors will be Vincent Néron, Project Manager for ReCod, and Hiba Jasmin, Research Assistant for CLUPEA, with whom you will also jointly plan the work in detail. The employer is Konrad Stralka, CEO of BalticWaters.
